Out of the mouths of babes

Thank you to the Castro family for finding this one.

First things first -
NEW GOALS:
Juggling:  30. If you can do 30, do 30 on your feet only. (Nate is only at 27)
Run Time:  Shave off 10 seconds (7:00)
Push ups:  3x10 (only 30 GOOD ones) Remember, Regular, Diamond, Wide.

LegLifts:  2 Minutes (Brush your teeth!)
BALL SKILL:

25 Toe Touch (top of ball)
25 Pull-Push (sole of foot pulls ball back. Same foot laces pushes it out. Alternate feet. I'll see if I can get Nate on video doing this).
Do 25- v-backs on each foot.

Now about the soccer. Check out these U11 boys. They are playing in their state cup competition down in California. You can watch all 12 minutes or so of this video, but I'm going to jump you directly to a spot where you can see clearly the kids have accepted the notion of "Chalking your shoes."

I want you to watch enough of this to see several things.
  • This play starts at the goalie and will be in the other goal soon.
  • Note as the goalie picks up the ball how the defender does not stop running until he is in position to support. Note also how far the supporting defender runs BACKWARDS. When you don't have the ball... work hard.
  • Note how the defense provides support DEEP and far away from the attackers
  • Notice as the first defender draws pressure, the supporting defender on the sideline has to change his angle by dropping back further. Not by running away. Not by running towards him. But simply dropping straight back along the side line.
  • See how they use the full width of the field. There are TWO players who keep the eyes of their chest towards the field of play while backing up to Chalk their shoes (put their heels on the sideline).
  • With three defenders against one attacker, how long could they play monkey in the middle? Point? They are NOT in a hurry. They are looking for the best out. What is decided?
  • Notice how quickly the decision was made to switch fields. Note also how solid the pass and the direction.
  • Now at this point you can say skill and a bit of luck. Quite a few one touch passes in this whole video. Not as much tactics. However, back the film up and notice who scores the goal. When did he start his run?
  • He receives the ball outside the 18. After a hiccup, he starts his run from the corner of the 18 across the goal. At any point does he change direction? Fake? Change the speed of his run? NO. He runs clean, consistent, and into a dangerous position. This allows the other attacker to lay the ball at his feet and make the goal look easy. Finish your run. Soccer is not like basketball on this point.
Cool stuff huh? Out of the mouths of babes.
